Pomeranian Heritage Tour tentatively scheduled for May 17-28, 2009
Another Pomeranian Heritage Tour offered by WTKM and InterTrav Corporation is tentatively planned for 2009. The preliminary schedule is:
May 17-Travel by motor coach from Hartford, WI to Chicago's O'Hare airport for flight to Hamburg, Germany.
May 18-Arrive in Hamburg and visit the Emigrant World Museum Ballinstadt.
May 19-Travel from Hamburg to Stralsund with stops in Schwerin, Wismar and Rostock.
May 20-Guided sightseeing in Stralsund including a visit to the Historical Culture Museum of the Baltic region in the morning. The afternoon is free to explore family genealogy or visit the Open Air Museum at Klockenhagen.
May 21-The Island of Rugen will be visited in the morning with a stop at the Folklore Museum at Gohren. The afternoon in Stralsund is free for those who wish to explore their family roots.
May 22-Travel from Stralsund to Szczecin (Stettin) with a stop in Greifswald to tour the city and visit the Pomeranian Archives.
May 23-Guided tour of Szczecin(Stettin) in the morning with the afternoon free for individual sightseeing, shopping, or visiting ancestral villages.
May 24-After optional church services in the morning, the group will travel to Kolobrzeg (Kolberg). After a tour of the city, an excursion on the Baltic Sea is planned.
May 25-Travel from Kolobrzeg (Kolberg) to Gdansk (Danzig) via Koszalin (Koslin), Slupsk (Stolp), Bytow (Butow) and Koscierzyna (Behrendt). A stop will be made at the Kashubian Museum in Kartuzy. Upon arrival in Gdansk, the group will visit St. Mary's Church and the heart of the restored downtown.
May 26-The group will travel to Malbork (Marienburg) to see the castle of the Teutonic Knights, then travel on to Berlin.
May 27- A guided tour of Berlin in the morning includes the Kurfurstendamm, Charlottenburg Palace, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden and the Check-Point Charlie Museum. The afternoon is free for individual sightseeing and shopping.
May 28-Fly from Berlin to Chicago and return to the Hartford area by motor coach.
The afternoons in Stralsund and Szczecin (Stettin) are available for tour members to visit their ancestral villages. Please make arrangements for local guides before the tour starts.
Early respondents may make suggestions for changes in the tour itinerary. The tour starts and ends in Hartford, but additional pick-up points such as Oconomowoc, West Bend Germantown and Milwaukee might be added.
Tour price is $2535 per person, double occupancy from the Hartford area. Departure taxes, Customs service charges, airline fuel surcharges and security fees are not included in this price. Open Library - Tentative Schedule
The Verein continues to offer individual help with Pomeranian research. Sign up for one or more of the following Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lindenwood Community Center at 12351 N. Granville Road in Mequon, Wisconsin: September 21, October 19 and November 23. All dates are tentative.

Frauengruppe
The Frauengruppe meets at the Lindenwood Community Center located at 12351 N. Granville Road in Mequon, Wisconsin from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Meeting dates are scheduled for September 11, October 9, November 6 and December 11.
The Frauengruppe will be embarking upon the ambitious project of indexing all items belonging to the Verein, whether they are located on or off campus. Some bulky items are being stored in members basements, barns, etc. If you know where something belonging to the club is being stored, please share that information.
The Frauengruppe is an auxiliary of the Pommerscher Verein Freistadt. They help with record-keeping and filing for the library, view the latest acquisitions, and have access to resources to help them in their own research. They are a service organization but also enjoy Kaffeeklatsching. New members are always welcome. Bring a bag lunch; dessert and beverage are provided.

Pommerscher Verein Freistadt Monthly Meetings
Monthly meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. at the Lindenwood Community Center, 12351 N. Granville Road, Mequon, WI. The building is usually open by 6:30 p.m. for members who would like to attend the German class conducted by Irmgard Meyer or those who would like to browse the library. The regular October meeting will be replaced by Erntedankfest and the December meeting by Weihnachtsfest (see below).
Friday, November 14 - DVD- "The Making of Milwaukee". A new series about the history of Milwaukee's growth, produced by Public Television in Milwaukee, dealing with settlement, early immigration and the German immigrants. We enjoyed the first part in May and will now see more of the series.

Friday to Sunday, November 21 to 23 - Holiday Folk Fair
Music, folk dancing, costumes and food from many parts of the world will be displayed at the annual Holiday Folk Fair in Milwaukee. Our Verein will again have a booth displaying Pomeranian culture. Volunteers are needed to help tend the booth. If you are interested in helping, call Robert Weiss at 920-386-2946.

Friday, December 12 - Christmas / Weihnachtsfest
Our annual celebration starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Lindenwood Community Center, 12351 N. granville Road in Mequon, Wisconsin. Members bring seasonal desserts to share, sing German Christmas songs and enjoy a program and good company. Children and grandchildren are welcome.
